What is a CT scan?
Computed Tomography (CT) uses an advanced X-Ray machine and specialised computer software to create a two dimensional image of your body, which can be reconstructed into any viewing plane. CT is an essential imaging modality which utilises the latest advanced medical technology to detect pathology.
What preparation is required?
The preparation for a CT scan can involve fasting for two hours prior to the scan, blood tests or adequate hydration.
Our booking coordinators will inform you of any specific preparation required for your CT scan at the time of your booking.
What can I expect during my CT scan?
Metal objects such as jewellery and coins, need to be removed prior to the scan as they can be detected on the CT images and may affect image quality.
You may be provided with a gown to wear instead of your own clothes, as some materials can be seen on a CT scan.
You will be asked to lie flat on a long table that will move through the opening of the CT scanner, which is spacious for patient comfort.
You will be asked to remain still and follow specific instructions during the scan.
How long does a CT scan take?
The length of the CT scan varies depending on the body region imaged which may take between 5 – 20 minutes.
What is the radiation dose of a CT scan?
The CT scanner at Beyond Radiology uses the latest advanced low radiation dose technology to optimise scanning techniques.
How much will the CT scan cost?
Our booking coordinators will advise you of all costs involved with your CT scan prior to your scan.
When can I get my results?
The images obtained from your CT scan are recorded digitally and stored on our system.
The images will be available electronically to your referrer immediately after the CT scan has been completed by the technologist.
The images from the scan will then be interpreted by a subspecialist Radiologist who will report the scan then send an authorised report electronically to your referrer.
What will happen if I am pregnant?
If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, please inform the booking coordinators at the time of booking your appointment. The need for the CT scan will be discussed with the Radiologist.
